TAKING LECTURE NOTES

Hi! Okey, actually this entry is a bit late from usual, but i had find some time to write it. As usual, it's a new entry and of course it's about a new topic. The topic is "Taking  Lecture Notes". This topic is helpful for students in their study. I had learnt this topic last Wednesday which is on 12th July 2017. Madam Normala binti Ismail was a lecturer that in charge for this topic. The class was so fun. I admit that i laughed a lot during her class.

Back to our topic, there're a few thing that we need to focus in this topic. Firstly, why do we have to take lecture notes? Taking notes during lecture will help us to get an accurate record of information apart from being an active listener. We also can easily interpret, condense and organize information. All the notes that we take are useful for review. Taking notes help us to understand the lecture well.

How to take lecture notes?

  • Prepare before taking notes.
The best way to prepare note taking activity is to read the text before class. During the lecture,we will have idea what the lecture is about if we read it first. We must built up the background about the topic and identify the main ideas of the lecture. It will be easier for us to take notes. It's better if we sit in the first rows of the class, we will hear and see well. Make sure we get ready to take a note as soon as we enter the class (note book, pen, mental and physical).

  • Become active listener.
If you want to become an active listener you also have to read before the lecture and review last set of notes. It's a must! You will understand what the lecturer is discussing about. Besides, when you are in class make sure you forget about personal matter a moment, focus attention physically & mentally and listen with an open mind so you will always ready to take lecture note.

LIBRARY & CAMPUS RESOURCES

Assalamualaikum and Hi!! For today writing is about the new chapter that i had learnt on 5th July 2017. The topic for this chapter is "LIBRARY & CAMPUS RESOURCES". One of the librarian in Perpustakaan Tun Abdul Razak (PTAR) was assigned to give a talk about this chapter, and she is Cik Nur Fathiah Muhammad. We can call her Cik Nur or Miss Fatihah.

Perpustakaan Tun Abdul Razak (PTAR) is name of the library in UITM campus Raub. This library only allow student to borrow 20 books in every 2 weeks while the lecturer can borrow 20 books in every 29 days. We need to return the book on time, if we late we must pay 20 sen per day for each book. 20 sen might seem little to us but it will become a big amount of money if we keep on delaying it. The last warning notice will given to student that late on returning the book. Students can also get disciplinary action if they don't take it serious with the mistake that they have done.

Lastly, I also learnt how to write citation APA style. It's the proper way to write a reference in any assignment. There are three types of citation APA style. First, basic format (books), second is edited book (unknown author) and the last one is, edited book (with author/authors). Before end this writing I will share one example of citation APA style for edited book (unknown author). Here it's :

ACADEMIC INTEGRITY & PERFORMANCE

Hi guys! So, today I'm going to write about a new chapter that I had learnt on  21st June 2017. The lecturer that assigned to gave a talk about this chapter was Madam Nurul Afzan . There are two subtopic for this chapter. First, Avoiding Plagiarism and the second one is Calculation Grade Point Average (GPA).

  1. Avoiding Plagiarism
Many students are unintentionally guilty of plagiarism when when write reports, assignments, and research paper. What is plagiarism?? Plagiarism is an act of using of closely imitating the language and thought of another author without authorization and the representation of that author's work as one's own, as by not crediting the original author. It is like we are stealing another person's idea. It's totally wrong. The owner must feel so bad about it. For me, it is a crime in the world of cyber. Here are some example of plagiarism :
  • turning someone else work as your own.
  • copying works or ideas from someone else without giving credit.
  • giving incorrect information about the source of a quotation.
  • changing the word but copying the sentences structure without giving credit.

How To Prevent??
When talk about prevent plagiarism. Actually, there are a few ways to prevent it. First, you have to planning your paper. If you have any problem, it's better if you consult your lecturer. You also need to take an effective notes so you will have enough and a complete information. It will easy for you to do your assignment.

Second is writing your paper. When you refer to any source, you have to make it clear who said what and you can include a reference page if you get the information from books, novels or magazines. you also need to know how to paraphrase so you will not involved in plagiarism. Evaluate your source, it is important.

      2.Calculation Grade Point Average (GPA)

The final examination results and assessment of the end of every semester, are assigned a Grade Point Average (GPA) and Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA). The higher pointer that you get, the more excellent you are. This grade are also to measure the level of your intelligence. If you get 4.0, you will be given an award at the end of semester. So, you better do well in every examination and assessment.

MEMORY LEARNING & IMPROVING CONCENTRATION

Assalamualaikum and Hii!! I want to write about what I learnt in my second class of study skills subject. This class was conducted by our group advisor, Miss Shamsinar Rahman. She gave a talked about "Memory Learning & Improving Concentration". Now, I want to share about what I had learnt in her class.

Brain vs Memory

Brain
  • Physical place
  • part of the visible, tangible world of the body
Memory
  • allow to remember facts and experience
  • consists of encoding, storing information and retrieval
  • trace our brain

What Is Learning?
Learning is not about storing information but it is about acquiring information. Memory is different from learning. Memory is about storing it. Learning is a behavior,  and it also a process. There are two types of memory. First, short-term memory (STM) and the second one is long-term memory (LTM).

As a student, actually it is our job to give a full concentration in class. It is important so that we can do well in any examination or assignment. Some student have a problem to pay attention in class, it is because they have a poor concentration. A few causes of poor concentration are lack of interest and motivation, distraction form others, uncomfortable environment, physiological matters, personal problem and illness or tiredness.

Students need to be creative to find a solution to prevent poor concentration so they can do well in every aspect. Here are some strategies for improving concentration :
  • use motivational and organizational strategies
  • create a positive learning environment
  • deal with internet distraction
  • use active learning strategies
  • match your learning style to the task

GETTING READY TO LEARN

YOU'RE NOT IN SCHOOL ANYMORE. GEARING UP FOR UNIVERSITY / COLLAGE ACADEMICS

There are a lot of new students in university that don't know how to manage their self in university life. It's because there are a lot of differences between school and collage. It is important for them to know the differences.

In the university, student spent more of their time studying outside the class, it's mean they spent less time in class because the schedule is not pack. It's difference from school, student definitely will spent most of their time in class. Students also need more reading in the university because they need more knowledge to become a great students. It will also be fewer test in university and u might not be reminded of due dates and exams. Instuctor don't tell you exactly what's on the test. Other than that, attendance may not be required and participation affect grades. Moreover, in university instructors may not be trained in education and they may have an international instructor.

To become an excellent student, you have to make a weekly schedule. use a planner and make a master list of all assignments and others. It will help you to be punctual and don't forget about everything. Student can't get behind on reading. Furthermore, students must learn how to take good note, it will help to prepare for study and test. You have to get notes from missed class. Lastly, an excellent student will go early to class everyday, so they would not miss anything.

Life in the university is easy  if we know how to manage it well.
